Dr. Rao’s journey began with a dedication to learning. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Bombay University in June 1980. Thus, laying the foundation for his future success. Moreover, driven by a thirst for knowledge, he continued his pursuit of excellence by obtaining a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) from Mangalore University in January 1985. This wasn’t the end of his academic journey, however. Dr. Rao’s relentless pursuit of knowledge and expertise has led him to continuously seek further qualifications and certifications, solidifying his position as a leader in the field.

Firstly, From 1995 to 2007, he adorned the mantle of Professor & Director at the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Craniofacial Surgery. Nevertheless, igniting minds and nurturing talent in the hallowed halls of the KS Hegde Medical Academy in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
Secondly, his expertise also graced the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in Mangalore. In addition, where his leadership paved the way for transformative advancements.
Also, venturing beyond borders, Dr. Rao’s academic pilgrimage led him to the esteemed corridors of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London. Thus, he served as a Registrar in the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, leaving an indelible mark on the global surgical landscape.
On the other hand, his dedication to knowledge dissemination shines through his roles as an Associate Professor at Padmashree Hospital & Research Center in Mangalore. Also, as a revered Lecturer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at institutions like the College of Dental Surgery, KMC, Manipal. Dr. Rao’s extensive experience spans over four decades. Nevertheless, during which he has performed over 20,000 surgeries as a craniofacial surgeon. His expertise encompasses a wide range of craniofacial anomalies, including cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, and syndromic and non-syndromic cases.
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Rao has held key positions in surgical services and training, serving as the Director Surgical Services and Training in Craniofacial Surgery. He has been actively involved in training and accrediting specialist surgeons from around the world, including countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Peru, and Vietnam. Moreover, he has played a crucial role in building a corpus of surgeons through the appointment of surgical trainees at various centers.
